  • InTouch Health Clinical Services team enhances TeleStroke expertise by achieving Advanced Stroke Life Support certification

Santa Barbara, CA, December 11, 2013 – InTouch Health today announced that more than 815 U.S. hospitals have now selected the InTouch® Telemedicine System to power their Acute Care Telemedicine (ACT) clinical services bringing the total installed base to nearly 15% of all U.S. hospital locations. An additional 120 centers in the global markets have also chosen InTouch as their ACT solutions provider of choice. ACT is an emerging model of care for hospitals and populations that lack timely and affordable access to specialists. The leading clinical application for InTouch Health’s ACT solutions is TeleStroke and the Company supports 17 of 50 U.S. News and World Report’s 2014 Best Hospitals for Neurology and Neurosurgery, and 19 of 58 Joint Commission Certified Comprehensive Stroke Centers. InTouch Health has partnered with leading hospitals to plan, implement and grow sustainable clinical programs for more than 80 TeleStroke networks comprising 550+ hospitals, more than the rest of the TeleStroke market combined.

In further support of its ACT and TeleStroke solutions, InTouch Health’s Clinical Services organization has completed the Advanced Stroke Life Support® (ASLS) practicum through the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. InTouch Health is now the only TeleStroke solutions provider certified as an accredited ASLS training center. The Company has taken this step to further broaden its TeleStroke expertise and to align its clinical services to better meet the stroke training standards and requirements of its hospital clients as they strive to meet stroke center certification and best clinical practices.

“We continue to see growing awareness and adoption of our ACT solutions and we are rapidly becoming the TeleStroke solution gold standard, as the accomplishments listed above demonstrate,” said Rob Fisher, Vice President of Clinical Services at InTouch Health. “As our hospital partners realize the value and benefit in deploying telemedicine to expand their clinical reach and services in this new healthcare environment, we are proactively acquiring new capabilities and competencies to comprehensively support their program objectives. Our completion of the ASLS coursework and certification as a training center to provide stroke training to our clients is just one example of how InTouch Health is equipping our team to deliver a higher standard of clinical readiness and compliance for customers pursuing TeleStroke and other telemedical services.”

About Acute Care Telemedicine

Acute Care Telemedicine (ACT) is a rapidly emerging category of care delivery that combines 2-way audiovisual communications, clinical data access and documentation software, and medical imaging to enable a remote doctor to provide immediate consultative care into hospitals lacking certain onsite medical expertise. Given the time urgency required for these consults, the robustness and reliability of the technology and connectivity infrastructure (network, people and process) is paramount. In many cases, ACT consults require the “active patient monitoring” of a patient by a remote specialist to support immediate clinical action. The InTouch Telemedicine System has been cleared by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration as a Class II medical device for Active Patient Monitoring. Today ACT programs are provided primarily in Emergency Departments and ICU’s for TeleStroke, TeleICU and other high-acuity clinical specialties.
